Despite embarking on their first-ever European campaign, Oliver Glasner's side are learning at a rapid pace. Without star figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a commanding win that all but guarantees them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.
A further victory in their upcoming match against Finnish KuPS should be enough to seal direct entry to the last 16, especially following a prior stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Moment
This occasion provided a chance for several Palace's fringe talent to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a clinical goal. After the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring with his first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also missed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
